all 4 Zylinder Jeep engine blocks have the same admission for the distributor, so it is not so a problem to switch. For the distributor is is no matter, if 12 oder 24 Volt. Only for the coil that will be very important. With an external coil, you can use a distributor from a Willys MB or all kind of CJ. If you want a internal coil, so your choice will be a distributor from a M38/M38A1. The MUTT distributor will not work, because the shaft and the housing is different.
When you use the "normal" not waterproofed distributor, you can use normal Cables and sparkplugs. When you will use the waterproofed distributor whith the internal coil, you need the associated cables and plugs. If you want to, you can make an adapter for using the normal cables. But that will not be waterproofed.
I'am not specialized in Swiss CJ5's, more the M-series specialist.

BTW. nice Jeep But, Army Markings and AIR Force Hood Lettering on a CJ5?
(I am eletronic analfabet) If I understand right - I get MB distributor - I must remake the coil?
I had original waterproof 24V and as I get MB normal distributor, I must remake the coil?
About color of my jeep I have all body in original swiss color but I am BIG FAN to warbirbird, I flown in F4U Corsair, B25J Mitchell, P 51D Mustang atc P51D Mustang is for me Jeep with wings :-):-):-)
But I think to future, I "wash" US marking, and I get to swiss marking :-)
if you get a distributor from a MB /GPW Jeep, you can use the coil you have in your car. The "old" Jeep's have a 6 Volt electrical system, otherwise your swiss CJ5 Jeep with 24 Volt.
You can use your coil by connecting the cables between the distributor and the coil. The thick cable goes to the cap, the small goes to the connecting port at the distributor housing. Only three cables at the top of the coil. One comes from the ignition key, one goes to the cap (spark), and one to the housing (point breaker) There are many pics to see in the Net.
